Could an alarm in the camper have saved our camera?

Sometimes an event comes back to me unexpectedly. That happened when I heard that E -Trailer is going to announce a new alarm module for motorhomes. Suddenly, I thought back to that afternoon in Italy. To my stolen camera. And especially to the question: could an alarm have saved my camera?

Since Italy, we are different.

Since my camera was stolen from Globus 2 , we view the security of our camper differently. Not more fearful, but certainly more alert. After all, Globus 2 is not just any camper. It is our home and we live in it. Even when we are having coffee somewhere and are simply present in the camper, we lock the doors we cannot keep an eye on. It might sound excessive, until you have experienced for yourself how silently someone can get inside.

Technology that we actually use

As you might know, I am enthusiastic about the E-Trailer brand, and we use various modules from them in Globus 2. For instance, we use the E-Level almost daily to check on our phone how level Globus 2 is standing. We don't necessarily need to be perfectly level, but at least we don't want to sleep with our heads down. Especially at an uneven campsite, that is a small convenience that has now become part of our routine.

A flat tire in Tunisia

During our trip through Tunisia, the E-Pressure proved to be even more important than just convenient. We received a warning along the way that the tire pressure was slowly dropping. It turned out the tire was already slightly leaking. Thanks to the warning, we were able to stop and intervene in time. As a result, we avoided continuing with a flat tire and eventually shredding it. It is precisely this kind of experience that makes it clear why we value technology that warns you before a small problem becomes a big one.

An open cabinet isn't practical either.

We also use the E-Switch while on the road. It warns us when a compartment or the roof hatch is still open when we start driving. That might seem like a minor detail, until you drive onto a bend or a bumpy road with an open compartment. You wouldn't believe how often we received the warning after setting off.

Trust gives freedom, vigilance gives peace.

A notification on your phone

For security, we already had a system that alerts us on our phones when movement is detected in Globus 2. That is useful, but what good is such a notification if you are out for a long walk kilometers away? You can see that something is going on, but you won't be back at your camper just like that.

That is where the difference lies for me.

The new E-Alarm is particularly interesting because, in the event of unwanted movement, a notification is sent not only to your phone. Inside the camper itself, a loud alarm sounds and a light flashes. This can immediately deter someone entering unwantedly. And that is precisely what is missing when you only receive a notification remotely.

Would my camera have survived?

Of course, we will never know that. During our theft, Globus 2 was opened without us noticing anything. If a motion sensor had reacted at that moment and a loud alarm had gone off immediately, the situation could have unfolded very differently. Perhaps the thieves would have left right away. Perhaps they would have ignored the alarm. Perhaps I would have run after them. Perhaps my camera would have disappeared after all. In hindsight, you can never say something like that with certainty.

No guarantee, but an extra layer

Of course, an alarm system does not make a camper impenetrable and does not automatically prevent every theft. What it can do, however, is ensure that a break-in no longer remains silent and unnoticed. Our camera was taken without us noticing anything. A loud alarm would at least have let the thieves know they had been discovered.

We are going to try it in January.

Not because I have suddenly become afraid of theft. Precisely because I don't want that to happen. We want to keep traveling, hiking, and regularly leaving Globus 2 behind while we explore the surroundings. However, from now on, I would like an extra layer of security for Globus 2 .
